1. sketchbook assignment -
minimum 20 pages filled with thoughts and ideas and
studies for works of art to-be-made
Use your sketchbook to write, study, sketch, and experiment. These should be ideas, notes, & research towards your sustained investigation. Do not rip out pages or go for perfection. This is how many artists truly work. However, consider the overall composition as you work. These pages will be part of your sustained investigation.
- What is your investigation going to revolve around?
- What questions can you pose regarding this? YOU MUST HAVE QUESTIONS TO ANSWER WRITTEN OUT... THESE WILL BE PART OF THE EXAM... IT IS AN INQUIRY BASED INVESTIGATION. I will be looking for these questions as part of this homework assignment.
- What visuals do you need to begin? Photographs and/or "live" studies of landscapes, people, houses, ext. Images pulled from the internet or magazines or newspapers... You can collage or paste or add these to your sketchbook. A good example of how documentation could look can be found on the artist/illustrator Pat Perry's Website. Here is a sampling of how he studied and drew while examining Alaska: http://patperry.net/art/alaska
- Experiment with materials... pen, pencil, collage, paint, oil pastels...
- Begin to take notes... Answer these questions in your sketchbook:
- What will your first work of art be?
- What materials will you use and WHY? How can they help communicate your concept?
